The Beignet Festival is more than just an annual celebration of a delicious, powdery pastry. It’s also a chance to support a good cause. The Beignet Fest Foundation was created by Amy and Sherwood Collins, parents of a child with autism named Liam. They founded the festival as a way to raise awareness and funds from ticket sales for local autism programs.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism spectrum disorder affects 1 in 44 children, and Collins wanted to make sure that families in New Orleans had access to the resources they need. Together, they created a festival whose mission would ultimately bring people together through these French Fritters, and support a 501c3 nonprofit organization, the Beignet Fest Foundation.

This year’s fest will take place on September 24th at City Park’s Festival Grounds from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm. Attendees can enjoy live music, delicious food, and much more. Tickets are on sale now for $20, and children under 12 years old are free of charge. So make sure to mark your calendars and join us for a fun-filled foodie experience all while supporting a good cause.

What is a Beignet?

Beignets are one of Louisiana’s most iconic dishes. These delicious, deep-fried doughnuts are a breakfast staple in the Pelican State, and they have a long and rich history.

First brought to Louisiana by the Acadians in the 18th century, Beignets have become a beloved part of Louisiana culture. These square-shaped pastries are made from a high-moisture dough that creates steam during its cooking process. They are deep fried and sprinkled with generous amounts of powdered sugar and can be best enjoyed when they’re hot and fresh.

Founded in 1862 as a coffee stand in the French Market, Café Du Monde is a popular spot to get beignets in New Orleans and they have been serving them for over 150 years. The beignets at Café Du Monde are made fresh throughout the day and are best enjoyed with a cup of their dark roast coffee, which has also become iconic.
