One of the longest-running foreign language film festivals in the United States, the 27th New Orleans French Film Festival, is set to captivate audiences from February 22-28, 2024. This annual event not only showcases excellence in contemporary and classic French cinema but also broadens its scope to include the rich tapestry of francophone communities from around the world.

This year’s festival boasts a curated selection of 14 features and 11 short films, all prominently featuring francophone communities. The films hail from various corners of the globe, including Belgium, Canada, Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, South Africa, Switzerland, and the USA. Language barriers are effortlessly transcended, as each film is presented in French with English subtitles, providing a truly immersive experience for the audience.

As part of its commitment to cultural diversity, the festival presents two special screenings. Louisiana filmmaker Glen Pitre’s two newly restored films, entirely in Cajun French, add a unique regional flavor. Additionally, the festival spotlights the work of Johanna Makabi, a filmmaker of Senegalese and Congolese heritage and artist-in-residence at Villa Albertine in Louisiana. This program, created by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and supported by the French Ministry of Culture, emphasizes the festival’s dedication to promoting diverse voices in cinema.

The 2024 New Orleans French Film Festival will feature in-person programming from February 22-26 and virtual programming from February 22-March 3. All in-person screenings will take place at the Prytania Theatre Uptown, providing a charming and intimate setting for the cinematic celebration.

For in-person screenings, attendees are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes prior to showtime to secure their seats. Late arrivals risk the release of their seats, with no refunds issued. As the festival unfolds, it promises a cinematic journey through the diverse and vibrant world of francophone cinema.

For cinephiles eager to experience the festival firsthand, in-person screening tickets are available for NOFS members at $13 and the general public at $16. Alternatively, the festival offers a Virtual Cinema option, with tickets priced at $9 for NOFS members and $11 for the general public. Individual tickets go on sale to NOFS members on February 8, 2024, at 12 PM CT, and to the public on February 15, 2024, at 12 PM CT.

Passholders enjoy the convenience of not needing to book tickets in advance. Instead, they can simply present the QR code printed on their physical pass for entry into the theater. To ensure a seamless experience, the festival highly encourages individual ticket purchases to be made in advance, considering limited capacity for physical screenings and potential view capacity limitations for Virtual Cinema screenings.

Tickets are available online until each physical screening begins, after which they can be obtained at the onsite Box Office, located at the Prytania Theatre Uptown entrance. The Box Office opens one hour prior to the first screening and closes one hour after the last screening of the day. To prioritize safety, cash and checks will not be accepted; only debit or credit cards and Apple/Google Pay via smartphone will be valid forms of payment.

If unable to use a purchased ticket, festival-goers can transfer it to a friend through Eventbrite using the email used for the purchase. For those who can no longer attend and have purchased a pass or tickets, the festival suggests considering the purchase a donation to the New Orleans Film Society, supporting its year-round programs. It’s essential to note that passes and tickets are otherwise non-refundable, with all sales being final.
